Welcome to PRSA Miami

With more than 200 members, the PRSA Miami chapter has grown to become the pre-eminent public relations organization in Miami-Dade County and has always enjoyed an outstanding reputation in the PRSA world for the strength of its chapter management and the quality of its programs. PRSA Miami offers members the opportunity to learn, network, develop leadership skills, and advance professionally in an atmosphere of good comradeship.

PRSA Miami has a membership that is more diverse than any other PRSA chapter. Our approach to building a membership base that reflects the composition of our community has won the chapter PRSA national diversity awards and inspired creation of PRSA's national diversity toolkit.

We invite you to become an active member of our chapter and learn more about joining, our events and leadership opportunities. If you are interested in joining a committee, please contact Fernando Figueredo, APR, President at figueref@miamidade.gov.

PERSONAL

1. What schools did you attend and what did you major in?

I received a Bachelor in Arts and Sciences from the School of Political Science at Florida International University, graduating Cum Laude.

2. Did you always know that you wanted to work in PR? If not, how did you become involved in the PR industry?

Yes, I always wanted to work in PR.

3. How do you enjoy your free time?

In my free time I enjoy boating with my son and husband and spending time with my family. I also enjoy listening to music and traveling as much as possible.

4. Are you involved with any other organizations that you find fulfilling?

I think giving back is a must. I hold various volunteer positions with PRSA, I am the current Chair of the Sunshine District and an assembly delegate for the Miami chapter. I also serve on the boards of the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition and the West Kendall Business Association.

PROFESSIONAL

1.  What was your first job in the industry?

My first job in the industry was an administrative position with Fleishman Hillard Miami and Latin America.

2. What do you find to be the most exciting aspect of your current position?

It is extremely exciting to start something from the ground up and to know you are molding a brand for generations to come.

3. What are your major challenges?

What excites me most goes part and parcel with my greatest challenge -- leading the PR and marketing efforts for a new hospital in a very strong healthcare system with one of my sister entities being only six miles away.

4. What is your proudest achievement in your professional career?

My proudest accomplishment has been overseeing the branding and positioning for Miami’s first new, non-replacement hospital in over 35 years and Baptist Health South Florida’s first dedicated academic medical center.

5. Where do you see the PR industry in 5 years?

I believe our profession’s role as a change agent will increase as we continue to facilitate communication between a cross section of publics and contribute to the greater social discourse.

6. What is your ultimate career goal?

My career goal is to keep growing, learning  while being the best PR practitioner I can be.  One day I see myself teaching and in this way continuing to advance the profession.

7. Any advice for PRSSA members/emerging professionals?

My advice to emerging professionals is to remember that when it comes to your work, the person that said don’t sweat the small stuff -- lied! Sweat it all -- the comma, the forgotten call, the card board box in the corner at an event, the gut feeling, the importance of what you are doing and how it will impact your organization, the missed opportunity, the lack of foresight. After a success take time to enjoy the win but sit down and analyze what you could have done differently to have improved the process. Enjoy your work but don’t live to work!
